2017 Presidential candidates and their running mates to be accorded State security
All presidential candidates and their running mates will get State security
The latest report comes barely days after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries (IEBC) formally cleared eight Presidential candidates and their running mates to vie for the country’s top office in the August 8 polls.
IEBC on Saturday, June 3 2017 said it had written to the Inspector General of Police, informing him of the clearance of the eight candidates and their running mates and the need for the to be accorded State security.
“The chairman has written to the IG on the matter. I guess it is a process being effected,” said Andrew Limo, who is the IEBC Communications Manager.
The eight presidential candidates cleared by the IEBC are President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is defending his seat on a Jubilee ticket, Joe Nyagah (Independent), National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga, Michael Wainaina (Independent), Mohamed Abduba Dida (Alliance for Real Change), Cyrus Jirongo (United Democratic Party), Ekuru Aukot (Thirdway Alliance) and Japhet Kaluyu (Independent).
